It will be an overview of 2000 years of God’s working with an emphasis on the development of the great doctrines of Christianity and the circumstances that prompted their formalization. We will look at how history impacted the Church and also how the Church has impacted history. Special mention will be made of personalities who shaped the church as well as the great councils and debates that moved us to where we are today. It has been said that those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. We will attempt to identify the heresies and mistakes of centuries past, and see where we are faced with similar issues today. We will also see that in the Providence of God, what we refer to as the Reformation is in reality a step in the progress of God’s plan for the Church that He planned in eternity, empowered at the Resurrection, and is moving to fruition in a glorious church without spot or wrinkle. This is an 8-hour adventure in Providence, heroism, and victory + reading and written assignments.
Bible teachers often present varying interpretations of the same passage of Scripture. Some differences are simply matters of opinion or emphasis. Others result from inadequate methods of interpretation. Using the Sermon on the Mount as our example, we will learn methods to find the original intent of a passage, interpret it in the light of our current setting, and present it to others in a meaningful way. Along the way we will find golden nuggets of truth from this timeless masterpiece taught by Our Lord. Come prepared to be awed by new insight into a righteousness beyond our grasp yet ours by grace. This class satisfies the Biblical Exegesis requirement. 8 class hours + reading and written assignments.

One in every three people in your congregation is directly affected by the devastation of addiction to drugs or alcohol. Alcoholics and addicts are not some mysterious army of faceless sinners. This class will help the addict stay free and find their place in the local body, help empower the family in how they can help, and help the Church become more effective in working with addicts. Some topics covered will be: What is an alcoholic? Is addiction a disease or a sin? How does addiction affect the family? How can I help my loved one? What about AA and other support groups?  Beginning in the early years of the 20th Century, the Holy Spirit began to be manifest in churches in ways that had not been common since the first century of the Church. Over the enduing hundred plus years movements and groups have been variously labeled “Pentecostal” - “Full-Gospel” - “Spirit-filled” - “Charismatic” - “Word of Faith”, to name a few. All the various groups, denominations, associations, and independents have in common a belief in the Person and power of the Holy Spirit in tangible manifestation. Though nuances of definition may vary, all hold in some form to the reality and practice of speaking in tongues, praying for the sick, and the manifestation of so-called “charismatic” gifts as listed in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. This course will attempt to address subjects that will help the student in the quest for supernatural, Spirit-empowered ministry. The goal is to produce ministries that are ever fresh in the guiding of the Spirit and ever ready to bring the power of God into contact with suffering humanity in order to release the captives and bring glory to the Living God
Much of ministry has to do with helping people who are in great distress. Many of them are tormented by mental and emotional problems that are debilitating. The Church has a long history of ministry to these individuals. The advent of modern medicine has helped us understand some of the physical reasons for such torments. Unfortunately it has also allowed us to avoid the responsibility for those whose problems are spiritual in origin. This course will explore the basis for mental and emotional torment, be it spiritual, mental, or physical. The student will learn how to discern if a person is being tormented because of a physical problem, a mental problem or a demonic entity. He will acquire skills that will assist him in helping the individual regardless of the source of the problem. This is an 8 hour course + reading and written assignments.
